ABOUT ME
Speak to Me

Hello, and welcome. I have written a small amount here to build a picture of the way I work, and for you to have a feel for the kind of person I am. It is important that you find a therapist you like and feel comfortable with, so if you think that I could be the Counsellor for you, I invite you to book a free online/phone introductory consultation. This will give us the opportunity to meet, answer any questions and have a chat about what might be helpful for you. There is no commitment to enter into therapy with me and I would be happy to help you find the right person.

I believe that people are all worthy, creative beings, shaped through our own unique social and relational context. Through the therapeutic relationship every person has the ability to change, grow, understand and move forward in life.

What Do I Offer

The way that I work is that I listen to your story, ask questions and try to understand what life means for you. My aim is to try to get a picture of what you feel like in your body, in your life and in your interactions with people. I believe that feeling heard and seen is incredibly healing and that there is immense benefit in having a space where we can explore, understand, heal and grow. Being offered the opportunity to work with you is something I take very seriously in terms of privacy, confidentiality, punctuality, reliability, clinical supervision, focus and respect.

As an Integrative therapist, I incorporate a range of techniques from my training and experience to empower you to make the changes you hope for. My work centres on the belief that the quality of relationships between people are of paramount importance in respect of healthy human development and well-being. I have Humanistic principles - focusing on the here and now, work holistically and incorporate Psychodynamic theory and skills to make links with your past whilst respecting you, the individual, and your particular needs. I can also work with your imagery and dreams using Jungian dreamwork and guided visualisation to further explore your inner world.
I can help you explore patterns of behaviour and communication difficulties, help you make sense of your relationships and look at strategies to develop healthy ones. I can work with you to help you improve your self-esteem, achieve your potential and develop in a positive way.

Experience

I finished my Integrative Counselling training and studies in 2014 and hold a diploma and a BA with first class honours. These studies and the training were over a 5 year period full-time and incorporated a variety of theory including psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive, psycho-social developmental, attachment, child development, philosophy, neurobiology and covered many experts in the field from Freud and Jung to Winnicot and Bowlby.

Other training completed includes mindfulness, working with play and imagery, using art, sand tray, puppets and dream work and online/telephone Counselling. I have worked privately with young people, adults and also as a secondary school Counsellor, helping many people make sense of their feelings and behaviours and improving their way through life.
Before and during my studies I entered into my own therapy journey and the training incorporated some deep personal work too. This journey was sometimes difficult but has been wholly rewarding and I grow and change alongside continued learning. I am passionate about helping people through their own journey.

Professional

I am an individual member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I follow their ethics and guidance for professional and safe practice. I am fully insured and also registered with the ICO. I see a supervisor regularly and engage with Continual Professional Development

Getting Started

If you decide to enter into therapy with me, we will find a regular time each week to meet. That will be your time slot. Having a regular session at the same time each week has therapeutic benefits for you, but I do understand if we need to be flexible.
Prior to your first appointment, I will email you my privacy policy, agreement with terms and conditions and consent forms to read and sign.

Appointments are 60 minutes long, unless you request a longer session of 90 minutes. Ten minutes before the end of the session, we will begin to wind down and discuss any homework ideas or practical arrangements for the following week. We will usually agree an initial therapy contract of eight sessions and then take some time to assess whether our work is moving in the direction you would like.
